El Contrato Social

This is the first spanish edition of the great work by Jean Jaques Rousseau(Du contrat social, 1762), translated by José Marchena Ruiz de Cueto and published in France in 1799. This is a very scarce first edition of this book (only 500 copies but 250 of them were lost). The title page is fictitious because Marchena, fearing reprisals from the spanish court decided not to give information about the translator and printer.
